Bentota River, the legendary river in southern part of the country, flows into the Indian Ocean forming a
lagoon at the last section of the river. The River Bentota and the lagoon set up the widest array of water
sports among all the beach resorts of Sri Lanka. Jet-skiing, windsurfing, parasailing or enjoying a romantic
river safari along the clam waters are some of the activities that are well known in the area. It has an
amazing bio-diversity with all to be experienced within walking distance. Bentota River Boat Safari is more
popular and well known for the tourists for witnessing crocodiles in their wild habitat as well as witnessing
the amazing aquatic species, fauna & flora of the Bentota River.

Natural Moonstone mine. Moonstone a name coined by the ancient Greeks to describe a particular stone
that seems to reflect the ethereal light of the moon in solid form, has many tales woven around its origin,
use and significance. Some believe, for instance, that it denotes protection especially during pregnancy,
childbirth and travel.

At Meetiyagoda, you can see or even go down into the deep, narrow shafts from which the stones are
mined to give you a true inside view of mining and the local life that’s woven around this profession.

Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and
then further developed by the Dutch and the British over the next 350 years. It covers nearly 4sqkm
and is protected by 12 bastions and connecting ramparts. During the early 18th century, the Old Dutch
Gate was the entrance to the Fort, but subsequently the British built the Main Gate that is still used
today. Buildings of interest include the Dutch Reformed Church, All Saints Church, Amangalla Hotel
(formerly the New Oriental Hotel), the lighthouse and bell tower. The Dutch also developed what was
then an innovative tide-based sewage-system within the Fort.
