DAY 01 BENTOTA – KANDY<\/h3>\n

After breakfast leave for Kandy\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Visit the\u00a0Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya,<\/strong> The Royal Botanical Gardens \u2013 147 acres in extent;
\nStarted in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of trees and plants. Some rare
\nand endemics as well as flora from the tropical World. Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists.
\nKandy, the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an
\nexample of Buddhism\u2019s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple\u2019s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist
\ntraditions are everywhere.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon commence a city tour of Kandy<\/strong>, including Upper Lake Drive, the\u00a0Gem and Museum<\/strong>
\nlapidary,<\/strong> Handicraft factory,<\/strong> In evening see the\u00a0Kandy cultural dancing show<\/strong>, and the\u00a0Temple of the Sacred Tooth<\/strong>
\nRelic.<\/strong> Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha\u2019s Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka
\nhidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orisons princess\u2019 hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka
\nand throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka\u2019s most prized possession. Temple of the Sacred Tooth
\nRelic had been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.<\/p>\n

Sri Muthumari Amman Hindu Kovil,<\/strong> situated in the
\nhistoric town of Matale is a very religious Hindu shrine in Sri Lanka. About 200 years ago this kovil was established
\nby the Indian Hindu community specially the South Indian traders who lived and did business in the town and in
\nestates around Matale.<\/p>\n

Afternoon a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park.<\/strong> Minneriya National Park is a national park in North
\nCentral Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, having been
\noriginally declaredas a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The reason for declaring the area as protected is to protect the catchment of
\nMinneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The tank is of historical importance, having been
\nbuilt by King Mahasen in third century AD. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population
\ndwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee districts.<\/p>\n
