Tour Itinerary

DAY 01 – BEACH HOTEL – KITULGALA – RATNAPURA
Pick up from the beach resort. Leave for Ratnapura & Water rafting in Kitulgala. Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rainforest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in the country. The Academy Award-winning “The Bridge on the River Kwai” was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge (and, supposedly, the submerged train cars that plunged into the river in the climactic scene). Kitulgala is also a base for white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometers upstream. The Kelani river is wide at Kitulgala, but it is shallow apart from a deep channel near the opposite bank, so in the drier months it provides a safe and attractive place to swim, wash and play. Dinner & overnight stay at , Ratnapura or similar.

DAY 02 – RATNAPURA

The reserve covers 30,821 hectares of land area and was established on 30 June 1972. The park is 165 kilometres from Colombo. The elephants are kept at part of the Udawalawe National Park vs to maintain familiarity with their habitat, but have access to both food and medical care. All care at the facility is by trained staff, and efforts are made to minimize contact between elephants and humans to keep the elephants from becoming acclimated to humans. Although visitors can watch the elephants being fed, they are not allowed to touch or otherwise interact with them. Afternoon leave for Kataragama.
