Tour Itinerary

DAY 01 - AIRPORT – COLOMBO

Arrive in Sri Lanka. Clients will be met by our representative on arrival and transferred to Colombo. Afternoon commence a city tour of Colombo. City tour of Colombo – like many capital cities in developing countries is fast changing its face. Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old world charm is retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Other places of interest are the Pettah bazaar – where one can shop for bargain, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple (Gangarama), Independent squire, Galle Face Green, Haber and the residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent. Dinner & overnight stay in , Colombo or similar.
DAY 02 - COLOMBO – ANURADHAPURA – DAMBULLA

After breakfast leave for Anuradhapura & commence a city tour of Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura is the first capital of Sri Lanka from 5th C.B.0 to 10th C.A.D. The remains of 15 centuries as a capital are found in a vast area. The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. From smaller monuments such as Thuparama and Lankarama to gigantic, 400 foot high Jetawana Dagaba, Abhayagiriya and Ruwanweliseya and the most sacred Bo-tree, (Ficus Religious)well-guarded up to this day, are found here. There are statues, remains of Palaces, Ponds, Temples, Shrines, Alms Halls, Meditation Centres, Old statues, Monasteries, Pleasure gardens and large number of other monuments are found at Anuradhapura. Proceed to Dambulla. Dinner & overnight stay at , Dambulla or similar.
DAY 03 - DAMBUL – SIGIRIYA ROCK – HABARANA – DAMBULLA

After breakfast leave for Sigiriya & climb Sigiriya Rock. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. It is the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka. King Kassapa (477-495 A.D) who shifted the Capital from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya made a fortress to surround his palace, which was constructed on the summit of a 500ft high rock, with necessary facilities. The Palace was surrounded by an outer-moat and wall and Inner – moat and Wall, pleasure garden, Mirror-wall, light coloured and dark coloured damsel’s frescoes, to cover the western wall and a beautiful staircase through the body of a Crouching Lion are some of the attractions here. The boulder garden consists of caves where Buddhist Bhikkus lived and meditated. After Kassapa Sigiriya was given back once again to the Bhikkus. Afternoon commence a Village walk in Habarana. Walk through typical dry zone villages and paddy (rice) fields & experience the traditional Sri Lankan life styles. Clients will be given fresh king coconuts straight away from the coconut tree. Experience a traditional Bullock Cart ride & a Catamaran (Double-paired authentic fishing Catamaran) safari at the scenic Hiriwadunna Lake. Enjoy a typical village lunch at a village Tree house. DAY 04 - DAMBULLA – POLONNARUWA – MINNERIYA SAFARI – DAMBULLA

After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa & commence a city tour. Polonnaruwa was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th – 13th C.A.D Great revival was achieved in the country, politically, economically and socially during the period of Kings Vijayabahu Parakramabahu and Nissankamalla of the Polonnaruwa period. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Afternoon a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park. Minneriya National Park is a national park in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, having been originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The reason for declaring the area as protected is to protect the catchment of Minneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The tank is of historical importance, having been built by King Mahasen in third century AD. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee districts. Dinner & overnight stay Dambulla or similar.
DAY 05 - DAMBULLA – MATALE – KANDY

After breakfast visit Matale,Spice Garden & Cookery Demonstration. Thereafter visit a Hindu Kovil in Matale. Sri Muthumari Amman Hindu Kovil,situated in the historic town of Matale is a very religious Hindu shrine in Sri Lanka. About 200 years ago this kovil was established by the Indian Hindu community specially the South Indian traders who lived and did business in the town and in estates around Matale. Thereafter leave for Kandy. Kandy, the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of the Buddhism’s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple’s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere. Dinner & overnight stay at , Kandy or similar.
DAY 06 - KANDY – PERADENIYA – KANDY

After Breakfast commence a city tour of Kandy, including Upper Lake Drive, Market Square and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha’s Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orisons princess’ hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka’s most prized possession. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic had been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Thereafter visit Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya. The Royal Botanical Gardens – 147 acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of trees and plants. DAY 07 - KANDY – NUWARA EIYA – KANDY

After breakfast travel to Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. Visit Tea Plantation & a Tea Factory. Thereafter Leave for Kandy by Train. (Second Class). You can enjoy the scenic drive. Dinner & overnight stay in , Kandy or Similar.
DAY 08 - KANDY – KITHULGALA-BENTOTA

Leave for Bentota & rafting in Kitulgala. Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rainforest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in the country. The Academy Award-winning "The Bridge on the River Kwai" was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge (and, supposedly, the submerged train cars that plunged into the river in the climactic scene). Kitulgala is also a base for white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometers upstream.The Kelani river is wide at Kitulgala, but it is shallow apart from a deep channel near the opposite bank, so in the drier months it provides a safe and attractive place to swim, wash and play. DAY 09 - BENTOTA - SINHARAJA RAINFOREST - BENTOTA

4.30 am leave for Sinharaja & trekking in Sinharaja Rainforest. Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests Eco region, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve's name translates as Kingdom of the Lion. Dinner & overnight stay at , Bentota or similar
